Carson Dorfman commits to RPI
The ‘03 goalie will replace Brett Miller for the Engineers
About a month ago, RPI picked up a commitment from Carson Dorfman. Dorfman is an ‘03 goalie currently playing for the Sioux City Musketeers in the USHL. He has only played in one game for them and didn’t allow a goal, so he has a 0.00 GAA and a 1.000 SV%. Obviously, that doesn’t tell us much, but luckily, Dorfman was in the NAHL for the first half of the year and all of last year. This year, he had a .901 SV% and last year, he had a .912. In total, he has a .908 SV% across 35 games.
Dorfman is a smaller goalie as he is listed at 6’0” and 179 LBs. He makes up for his size with good athleticism though. According to reports, he “gets post to post well and is quick to get back into position.” Dorfman is also good at tracking pucks and making the first stop to effectively control his rebounds. Overall, despite being a smaller goalie, it seems as though he has a good enough skill set to compensate for it.
Dorfman will age out of junior hockey this year and enroll at RPI this fall. He appears to be the replacement for Brett Miller given his track record and pedigree. Miller gave the Engineers some good starts this season while Watson was out, so having reliable depth at the position is important. Dorfman seems capable of doing that, and I can’t wait to see him in the Cherry and White. Congratulations to Carson and his family on his commitment!
