Luc Wilson and Cole Gordon commit to RPI
Two more forwards are joining the Engineers out of the portal
A couple weeks ago, RPI picked up an additional two commits out of the transfer portal with Luc Wilson and Cole Gordon. They fill two more spots up front as Coach Lang seeks to re-fill the roster after all the departures.
Luc Wilson comes to RPI from Minnesota State where he played a 3rd line role on their NCAA tournament team. He had 13 points in 32 games last season and 19 points in 36 games the season prior. Prior to college, he was a top player in the BCHL for the Penticton Vees with 75 points in 52 games in his last season there, which was 5th in the league. He played 4 years in the BCHL and totaled 179 points in that time.
Wilson is a skilled forward with good hands. He likes carrying the puck on his stick and making plays. He generates lots of scoring chances for himself and can capitalize on them with his skill and shot. He also has really good vision and awareness. He sees passing lanes develop well and hits his teammates in stride and on the tape. In his final season of college, Wilson will be able to contribute offensively from the wing for the Engineers, likely in the top 6 given the state of the roster. Watching him reminded me of Ryan Brushett, and I think he can have a similar type of impact.
Cole Gordon is being brought in to play a very different role. Gordon comes from Arizona State where he was the 4th line center last season. He had 5 points in 34 games. Gordon is a big and physical forward known for his hitting and toughness. He’s a true grinder who competes hard, goes to the dirty areas and makes his presence known. He will be fighting for a spot in the lineup among the likes of Brad McNeil and Mat Bourgault as a defensive and hard to play against forward who can forecheck and play on the PK. He will add good depth to the bottom of the roster for the next two years.
